When your work depends on your voice and speech, guess what happens when you catch a cold or down with a nasty flu? For me, it means that I have to cancel all my jobs.  Yup.  A few years ago I was walking on crutches due to a leg injury, yet I was in an out of studios, still able to record.  But when your ailment affects your ear, nose, throat and breathing function, then it means you will have to hand the job over to someone else.  I had to turn away several booked recordings these past two days because I can’t deliver clear speech due to my blocked nose.  Words like “new” sound like “dew”, or “moisturise” sound like “boisturise”.  Not only that, energy levels are low and over-enunciating phrases for the sake of clarity will make everything sound quite strange.  I’d make a very convincing voiceover for a flu commercial though, but it is very unlikely that I’d get a script for Vicks mentholated rub or some decongestant medication at this time.  So for now, it means, rest, recuperate and no talking.  It’s a good time to write though … in my brand new blogpost.
